This is just a short post in response to an email I received.

Perhaps one of the biggest money pits going is the gym membership. This is probably one of the most purchased yet underused things in the world, other than at home exercise machines, that is.

It would seem that many have the best intentions in the world of having time to exercise for all that good that it can do, but so many also lack the will to get up and get moving. If you have a membership, make sure you put it to good use instead of paying for something you never use.

When you choose your gym membership, the chances of you using it depend on where you sign up. If you are self conscious, you need to answer this question; do you really care what someone who you don’t even know may think of you?

And no asking this question once won’t make all your doubts disappear, but it is a good place to start. This is down to how the brain works but that’s for another post.

You can also find a gym membership for a local gym that might be a more comfortable place to go. Almost every community has such a place, and many have a YMCA or a YWCA, both of which are great for the entire family to workout or play together. They often have a great variety of things for everyone, and the prices are often very reasonable.

Perhaps one way to make sure you use your gym membership is to hook up with a friend who can motivate you to go and work out. On the days you don’t feel like working out, he or she might. It can work in reverse as well.

That means between the two of you, you are more likely to take advantage of your gym membership and you will find a new person emerges after a few months. It’s never easy to go work out, but having fun with a friend is a good way to get into the habit of going all of the time, and making the most of what you are paying for when you buy your membership.

When I go to the gym it is my time for myself, I stick in my headphones and I slip into my own little world. Ok you may say your fit and you’re a trainer so you’re not going to be self-conscious.

Well I train hard, sweat a lot, headphones in listening to multiple subjects depending on my mood, if it’s a comedy you’d catch glimpses of me laughing to myself. I must look like a mad man but I don’t care because where I train nobody knows me.

For me to still enjoy training in a gym I need to separate myself from the trainer and make it my time for myself. This is what I recommend for you; make it your time for you.
